One of my fondest memories with my grandfather was spending time together at the shooting range. I do not, however, believe that protecting the right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms is at odds with us making our schools, streets and communities safe. We can do both.
In Hartford, I helped pass Ethan’s Law which closes loopholes on safe storage of firearms and it allows school systems to offer firearm safety programs from PreK to Grade 12. That same year we outlawed ghost guns which are made of polymer plastic and are manufactured without serial numbers. Finally, we passed an act prohibiting storing or keeping a handgun with a barrel shorter than 12 inches in an unattended motor vehicle if the firearm is not in a locked safe or a locked glove box.
I have repeatedly opposed establishing an excise tax on ammunition. I believe passage of this would place an increased financial burden on purchasing ammunition, which is already expensive.
