As one of only two openly gay members of the General Assembly I have been instrumental in advancing proactive LGBTQ policy. In 2019, I successfully led floor debate on legislation to establish a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) Health and Human Services Network to make recommendations to the State about how to work toward a safer and healthier environment for the LGBTQ+ community. I have fought discrimination through bills like banning the Gay and Trans Panic Defense in criminal cases and restoring state benefits to Connecticut service members who were denied an honorable discharge due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
